ICC arrest warrant vs Putin serves as warning to Duterte’s drug war

Senator Risa Hontiveros is not backing down when it comes to seeking justice for victims of Rodrigo Duterte’s brutal war on drugs. The recent arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Russian President Vladimir Putin gives her even more reason to push for accountability for crimes against humanity.

The ICC found Putin guilty of “unlawful” deportation of 16,000 Ukrainian children into Russia since the February 2022 invasion. This is a war crime and a clear violation of international law. It sends a strong message to all those who think they can get away with such heinous acts.

The investigation also covers Duterte inhumane directives to kill drug suspects without regard for human rights. Government data shows that over 6,000 people have been killed in Duterte’s “war on drugs,” but human rights groups believe that number could be as high as 30,000, with some innocent victims executed without due process.

Justice must be served, and the ICC’s actions against Putin should serve as a warning to all those who commit atrocities. It’s time for a global movement towards accountability and justice for all, and governments must ensure that their citizens’ rights are protected.

We cannot allow impunity to reign, and we must hold our leaders accountable for their actions. Let’s stand together and demand justice for all victims of crimes against humanity. The ICC’s actions against Putin are just the beginning, and we must continue to fight for a better future where justice prevails.
