Filipinos Encouraged to Celebrate Climate Change Consciousness Week
Manila, Philippines — The Climate Change Commission of the Philippines is encouraging everyone to participate in the global celebration of the Global Warming and Climate Change Consciousness Week this November 21 and 22 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
Secretary Lucille Sering of the Climate Change Commission encourages everyone, particularly the youth, to participate in the country’s celebration of the Climate Change Consciousness Week this November 21 and 22 at the SMX Convention Center. The conference and exhibit entitled: “National Climate Change Consciousness Week: Creating Convergence on Climate Change,” is open to the public, and will be culminated after with an advocacy youth concert.
Creating Convergence on Climate Change
The Climate Change Commission of the Philippines, led by Secretary Lucille Sering, together with relevant agencies and in coordination with different private institutions, will be holding a two-day conference and exhibit entitled: “National Climate Change Consciousness Week: Creating Convergence on Climate Change,” at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City from November 21 to 22.
The two-day conference and exhibit aims to promote awareness on climate-change mitigation and adaptation opportunities that ensures the adaptive capacity of communities, the resilience of natural eco-systems, andthe sustainability of built environment to climate change.
This is in pursuant to Proclamation No. 1776 dated November 18, 2008, declaring November 19 to 25 as the ‘Global Warming and Climate Change Consciousness Week.’
Youth Workshops, Exhibit and Conference on Climate Change Convergence
Taking serious action towards climate change awareness, the two-day conference and exhibit is open to the public. Plenary sessions of government agencies, civil societies, business groups and international institutions will be held to launch the various initiatives and projects on Climate Change.
Workshops on localizing the Climate Change Action Plan, and Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Technologies for the youth will also be held to further the education and awareness of the people on the shift of the energy balance and rapid change in the Earth’s climate.
As a culminating event for the two-day conference, an advocacy youth concert entitled: “Greeneration: Pinoy + Youth + Power in a Changing Climate,” will be held with the active participation and support of some of the country’s most-loved bands, M.Y.M.P., Up Dharma Down, Parokya ni Edgar, Itchy Worms and many more.
Measuring and Offsetting
To further the Climate Change Commission’s thrust of creating concrete action plans; the carbon footprint of the whole event will be measured. The commission will also introduce Carbon Offset Schemes that will enable institutions both from the public and private sectors to lower their emissions.
