Willie Revillame uses poor versus rich debate to divert real issue

Willie Revillame is trying to frame the debate as “poor versus rich” to divert attention from the real issue which is alleged child abuse.

In today’s episode, someone related on Facebook how Willie Revillame “talked about those actors and actresses tweeting against him. mayayaman daw kasi ang mga yun. sila (siya) raw, ang heart niya para sa mahirap.”

If Willie is truly sincere in helping the poor, he might want to look at Matthew 6:3 “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing”. You don’t need to toot your horn. The poor will thank you and that is reward in itself.

2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I tweet a lot but I am not as rich as Willie thinks tweeters are. I don’t have lots of homes or yacht. I tweeted because I was concerned of the 6 year old boy with tears in his eyes as he swayed to a macho dance. I could not resist the urge to comfort him and wonder if Willie violated child abuse laws. I thought Willie was the lowest of the low.

Yesterday, Willie talked about advertisers who withdraw support will surely face boycott from those who love Willing Willie. Watch this video.

Reacting to calls for advertisers of Willing Willie to withdraw their support from the program following the Jan-Jan incident, Willie Revillame said on the TV-5 show yesterday, March 29, “‘Pag binoycott kami ng advertisers, ‘yong mga nagmamahal sa amin, hindi bibilhin ang produktong ‘yan (If advertisers boycott the show, people who love Willing Willie won’t buy their products).”

Here is a transcript

“Kasi masyadong mabigat yung hinuhusgahan n’yo kaagad ako.

“So, nagprotekta pa rin ho kami dun sa bata, which is, hindi ko alam ‘yan, a.

Ayaw daw niyang ngumiti. Dapat maintindihan.

“Alam n’yo, meron siyang video a, sa school niya. Four years old pa lang siya, yun na ang sayaw niya, saka ganun na ang reaction niya.

Sabi niya, ‘Kuya.’ Sabi ko, ‘Sino to?’

“May nagpupunta, tumatawag, siraan ako, wasakin yung show, at ang sabi… Ito, nakikita n’yo nang nangyayari, o. Isipin n’yo? And then, pumunta ang DSWD doon, kinausap sila, tinanong kung inutusan ko ang bata na yun ang sayawin. Ako ho ang pinupuntirya.

“In fairness sa MTRCB, kay Chair[person] Poe, kay Ms. Mary Grace. Ako, I salute you, Ma’am. Kasi ang sabi niya, ‘Iimbestigahan muna namin bago kami magdesisyon.’ I think that’s the way to do it. Wag muna kayong maghuhusga.

Not only that, Willie castigates Tweeters and asks what they have done for the poor.

He also addressed the celebrities who have Tweeted about the controversial incident. Shaking his head, he asked them to help fellow Filipinos instead. He declined to name the celebrities because he claimed a lot of people will get mad at them.

(“Don’t tweet about it; we’re all in the same industry. Whoever you are, just hold a concert and donate the money you’ll earn.”)

He is not remorseful and sounds defensive and arrogant. Do the advertisers still want to be aligned with Willing Willie? Advertisers, sponsors, please make sure you are not “muhkang ratings” anything that rates no matter what moral or quality they will support.
