Archbishop Cruz unsolicited love advice to President Aquino

Former Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz thinks the president is too old to marry. Do I hear the President snickering? Who says one is too old to marry? The good Archbishop should reveal these statistics to prove that marrying late beyond forty years old is doomed to failure.

In an interview with Headstart, the archbishop said

Cruz said the 51-year-old President should stay a bachelor. Citing statistics from church courts, the priest said those who get married after 40 may have an unstable union.

“We found out that those who get married young, and by young, 20 years old below, and those who get married old, 40 above, these are the marriages which are unstable. The younger part, it’s unstable. They are movable. They change. Marriage is a continuity, it’s a permanence and easily they change. It doesn’t suit their age,” he told ANC’s “Headstart.”

“But 40 above, marriage is blending. Two in one. Somebody who’s 40, 50, 60 cannot blend anymore.”

Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte recalls ” to the best of my knowledge, he is not a marriage counselor. Neither does he have a personal relationship with the President as to make a deductive conclusion regarding his personal life. ”

Just like @hannahRaev, I too believe in the miracle of true love. “whatever happened to LOVE KNOWS NO BOUNDS? Archbishop Cruz’s take on PNoy’s dating status was uncalled for & unbecoming of a PRIEST.” @thedemig0d tells the Archbishop “.. best stay out of PNoy’s love life and focus on a plan to feed all the children if the #RHBill doesn’t pass.”

Tweeters get protective over the President telling the Archbishop to leave the President alone. @mancypino calls Archbishop Cruz judgmental, arrogant & haughty – “shame on him! What a sad representative for Pinoy Catholics. Leave @noynoyaquino alone!”

Others think the Archbishop has no business talking about marriage. @Jerwin_marcelo asks “Anong alam mo sa marriage life eh wala ka naman asawa, Former Archbishop Oscar Cruz?”

@yrrej64 adds “ano gusto ni archbishop cruz, makapag-fling na lang si pnoy?”

Tuesday’s news about the Baguio Cathedral priest and the “love advice” of the Archbishop is indeed bizarre.
